Report by TX operator, John Heath:

Last year when Chris Heys hid in Hurst Wood, I reacquainted myself with some of the lesser used parts of the area around Clifton Marina as I took the prettier (though longer) route into his site.  I decided that I would take advantage and use that area to hide in this year.  There was very little cover in the area chosen and so I decided to sit at the end of the aerial by the little brook and just cover myself with bit of camouflage netting.

This was an important event as both Chris Plummer and Dave Chippendale have two wins to their credit and both needed to win this one to be unbeatable in the series.

The signal was heard at the start by most competitors, but the approximate had to be issued to give a couple the general direction of the transmitter.

I expected to see Chris Plummer soon after 11 o'clock but it was nearly half past when he panted up the stream complaining that he had been in the area nearly an hour, as he had found my car before the second transmission, and entered the wood I was in.

Soon after Chris had trudged off back to his car John followed the same way up the stream and was surprised to find he was second, closely followed by Dave Holland.

There was then a quarter of an hour wait before Dave Peacock was spotted sprinting down the hill towards me, the only one not to come into the transmitter via the stream.  Closely following him 1 minute behind was Dave Chippendale, not first today, and now realising he had to win the last event to equal Chris Plummer’s score.

The lunch was at the Unity Brook Inn, which was used by Chris Heys after the event in January last year.
