On-Air Demonstration of the Ground Plane Antenna
On Friday 18th August we had a
demonstration of a simple ground plane Antenna. The antenna was constructed
using stranded wire, a fibreglass pole and a traffic cone. The antenna
consisted of a vertical element roughly tuned to 20 Metres. When checked
with an Antenna Analyser it gave a good SWR (<1.5:1) across the entire
band. It was optimised for the CW segment within which the SWR was reduced
to < 1.2:1.
Here you can see the
members eagerly awaiting the start of the talk:-

Unfortunately as RON G3SVW began to explain the theory of thye Antenna it
began to rain and Ged G8RSI had a difficult decision, should he shield the
rig or the lecturer:-

As you can see he choose the rig... In the background you can see the
Antenna and a radial, labelled for those like me with less than 20:20
vision...

Despite the rain Ron managed to work several stations on the key
including Argentina... |
